So you have one of those funky dunky return air filter things from like 20 years ago...they are dusty and moldy and smelly! What to do?
Option 1) You can take it off and throw it in the trash and get a new one, only to repeat the process in a few years.
Option 2) You can unscrew the whole thing, run it under hot water, soap it up and scrub like you've never scrubbed before.
Option 3) Paint over it and get it looking clean-ish.
Option 4) Get our awesome amazing LazyVent.
So what is a LazyVent? And why is it called that? For starters, you have to unscrew your returns to get to the filter, not only does this cause dust and old paint to fall to the floor, but it's a pain in the butt to repeat this process every few months. Let's face it, we're all a little lazy from time to time, especially when it comes to these mundane home requirements (does anyone else hate changing the vacuum bag? or cleaning the washing machine pump?). Thus, the LazyVent (emphasis on the Lazy) was born to make all our lives just a little bit easier. Because it's okay to be lazy, we have enough things going on than to have to worry about changing the filters on our air conditioning systems.
Let's get to the part about what a LazyVent is. It's a quick to open cover for holes! "you mean for air conditioning returns and filter grilles?" well, yes, but it can and has been used for so many different things, that we can no longer just call it an air return filter grille. It simply pops open and clicks close using magnets.It's often used for electrical panel access and for attic access! Also, it's an amazing discreet hiding place for all your goodies (think Breaking Bad 2.0). But it's original intended purpose was for air conditioning systems, so let's get back to that. You may say "But there are hinged returns that you can swing open!" Yes, but aren't those hinges ugly? The design on our LazyVent is really quite genius. No hinges, no levers, no handles, no mess! Here is how it works in a nifty illustration:
You get two pieces, the frame, and the center "screen" (as we call it). The frame gets screwed in place and that's pretty much it for installation. The back of the LazyVent is flat, meaning there are no inserts, it'll just go over your ceiling or wall. The frame has small brackets of metal that will hold the screen in place using magnets on the back of the frame. So the screen pops right in, and pops right back out! Easy peasy!
This is the Ribbon LazyVent, it's covering a large electrical panel.
